7/10/10: Red, White & Blue

Kandy & Kevin are career Marines. After serving months apart on different continents, imagine arriving in Texas the week before the wedding. Planner Lauren Kelly provided inspiration & coordination  during several months of Waco-to-Senegal email & telephone  planning.  The dress was purchased off the rack at Joanne’s Bridal a week before the event. Lyncca Harvey scheduled a bridal portrait afternoon on the Monday prior (hair by Phillip Sanchez/Salon Wabi Sabi, makeup by Sandra Shapiro.  These were but a few tasks crammed into a week filled with many family and starting-life details.

Kandy was raised in Dawson, TX. Kevin’s home state is Maine, but he and his family love heat – good thing because their wedding day was hot and humid!  The shades of red, white and blue color palette blended beautifully with Kevin’s dress blues. Kandy’s aunt baked the delicious cakes. Bestyett Catering provided a sampling of foods from the many countries the bride and groom have travelled while serving our country, & Diamond Productions kept guests dancing throughout the evening.  Attached are Lyncca Harvey’s composites of their celebration day;  this group enjoyed lots of laughing, silliness and pure joy to be able celebrate their special day with friends and family.

6/26/10: Yellow, Blue & White

The marriage of a high school choir teacher & an engineer. Simple decorations – yellow gerber daisies that hold up well in the heat, polymer ice w/ acolytes & tealights to add sparkle when the sun set. Fans blasting full-speed. Allyn & Tonya performed their first dance to steps choreographed by their dance teacher, taking into account the tent pole placement. A day of smiles and celebration. Followed by a honeymoon to Australia that included scuba diving and a visit to the Sydney Opera House – what fun!

**The blue lanterns shown in these pics were hand-dyed, this is a technique I can use to customize lanterns for almost any color palette; talk w/ me if you’d like to add some for your event.

Every Picture Has A Story

Every picture has a back story, here are just a few you can match:  1) We were recently asked to take a picture of the gates for an invitation illustrator. During the winter of 2007 a well-worn wood picket fence was replaced. Built-Wright Construction, & skilled mason Corky Cole installed 4′ concrete foundations for the columns & masonry, Brem Fence added the panels and gates. The fence rebuild was a 3-month project which included 4′ deep concrete pads for the brick columns to prevent eventual tilting. EHHPG staff painted the chainlink fence that surrounds the grounds and added the black privacy panels. 2) The couple kissing in the gazebo will be married in Tyler, TX  7/24/10. Recent BU grad Slater Jackson has been part of our event crew for a couple of years, Slater’s EHHPG gazebo engagement proposal was obviously accepted  – congratulations & best wishes to both of you!  3) Engagement pic – Paige Baier & Daniel Green will marry at EHHPG next April, their photographer Dwain Coufal is the first to shoot by a mammoth cypress tree located in our work area at the corner of 4th & Ellis. Beautiful.  4) It’s been a spring & summer of new life and color in the gardens. We added 50 more knockout roses to flowerbeds; the pomegranate tree has bloomed & is now producing fruit, & as usual birds made nests in the property’s sculptures and paper lanterns.

6/11/10: Yellow and White

Mid-May thru October are generally warm-weather months in Waco but the decor’s color choices will play a big role in “cooling” down your guests, as depicted w/ Kelly’s yellow, cream and white palette. The decor was simple – fresh flowers arranged loosely in IKEA white glass & varied-height cylinders. Polymer “ice” w/ clear acolytes, floating candles & tealights added twinkle. Kelly provided me w/ gingham yellow & white ribbon + yellow parasols – simple materials that added a personal touch to the overall look of this reception for 250. (double-click the pics to enlarge).
